Summer Scholars Student Experience

Summer Scholars | Three-Week, Credit Program

  • On-Campus Program Daily Schedule

    Have an immersive on-campus experience in a residential or commuter status. This three-week, credit program is open to students completing grades 10 or 11. Each academic track consists of a morning and afternoon course. Courses are structured around lectures, open discussion, lab work and guest lecturers.

    Classes are in-person held daily, Monday through Friday. Note: class times are subject to change.

    Morning class:  8:10 am - 11:40 am

    Lunch: 11:40 am - 1:10 pm 

    Afternoon class:  1:10 pm - 4:40 pm

  • Coursework

    Students enrolled in college credit courses will be assigned coursework to complete outside of class during evenings and on weekends.

UM Academies | Two-Week, Non-Credit Program

UM Academies are open to students who are currently in grade 9, 10, or 11 (rising sophomores, juniors and seniors). Students select one Academy (non-credit course) to study over the two-week session. Students will meet in both morning and afternoon sessions in an engaging, experiential academic setting. 

    Classes are in-person and held daily, Monday through Friday. Note: class times are subject to change.

    Morning session:  9:15 am - 11:30 am

    Lunch: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

    Afternoon session:  1:00 pm - 3:15 pm

     

  • Remote Program Daily Schedule

    Learn remotely in the UM Academies immersive academic program open to students who are currently in grade 9, 10, or 11 (rising sophomores, juniors and seniors). Students select one Academy (non-credit course) to study over the two-week session. Students will meet in both morning and afternoon sessions in an engaging, experiential academic setting. 

    Classes are remote and held daily, Monday through Friday.

    Morning session:  9:30 am - 12 pm ET

    Lunch: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm ET

    Afternoon session:  1:00 pm - 3:00 pm ET

  • Coursework

    Students will have projects to prepare outside of class during evenings and on weekends.

  • Co-Curricular Programming

    Co-curricular activities complement classroom learning and are a vital component of the Summer Scholars Program and UM Academies. Students will have many opportunities to engage in student development and social experiences outside the classroom. 

  • In-Person Program

    Students are invited to join evening activities on campus where they will connect with fellow Pre-College students from around the globe, meet UM undergraduate students, and interact with University of Miami personnel. Students gain confidence in their ability to navigate collegiate life through a wide array of college preparation workshops and social programming.* 

    Mentorship Program

    To promote student success every student is paired with a Pre-College staff mentor to provide student support and connect them with campus resources during their journey at the University of Miami.

    Learning Communities 

    Students are grouped in learning communities called academic tracks, which are cohorts of students who enroll in the same two courses, share common academic goals, and work collaboratively in and out of the classroom. Students form supportive friendships with their peers, as they learn, study and engage with the college community. 

    College Preparation 

    • University of Miami Undergraduate Admission Info Session and Admission Workshops 
    • Writing the College Essay and Resume
    • Learn to Navigate the Library and its Vast Resources

    Campus Engagement

    • Undergraduate Student Panels – Q&A
    • Campus Tour and Trivia
    • Preview UM Clubs and Student Organizations and interact with UM undergraduate students
    • Workshop with UM Lowe Art Gallery

    Social Activities

    • Games nights, movies, quiz bowls, sports competitions, pool party, study breaks and more

    Weekend Activities

    On weekends, students have the opportunity to explore Miami and South Florida by participating in activities organized and chaperoned by program staff. Off-campus activities may include: snorkeling in Key Largo, attending a Miami Marlins baseball game, touring Miami Beach and Wynwood, and exploring the Everglades. Note: excursions are included in Tuition and Program fees).
